Biography
Mr. Sowell is a registered architect and roofing observer who has focused the past decade of his career on the technical and aesthetic aspects of building enclosures. From thermal and structural performance testing of fenestration to navigating complex enclosure rehabilitation projects through jurisdictional and historic preservation approvals, he has had a hand in every facet of building enclosure design, evaluation, and construction. Using practical field experience, cutting-edge technology, and industry best practices, he has performed dozens of enclosure failure and performance investigations of residential and commercial buildings on behalf of owners and contractors. Complementary to the standard recording and quantitative investigation tools, he takes pride in the use of thermography, LiDAR scanning, and thermal and hygrothermal modeling to aid in root cause analysis and assess the scope of subject conditions. Supplementary to enclosure investigations and enclosure subject-matter-expert capacity, he provides pre-purchase building enclosure assessment and code analysis, construction defect litigation support, and pre-rehabilitation design assessment services. Peers and clients often request him to review enclosure design and detailing.
